Synopsis
Winner of the Orsella d'Oro at the 1995 Venice Film Festival, A Midwinter's Tale is a delightful romantic comedy that celebrates actors, acting, and their first love, the Theater. Trying to regain his self-esteem, an idealistic out-of-work actor assembles a troupe of six misfits and eccentrics to play the twenty-four roles in Hamlet. They will all eat, sleep, and work together for three weeks. What takes place next is a surprise for everyone. This volume features the complete shooting script, an introduction by Kenneth Branagh, twenty-five photographs from the film, and cast and crew credits from the production. Reviews "Absolutely delightful, witty, sophisticated, and outrageous. "
"It is the brilliance of the acting and the beauty and wit of Branagh's language and direction that bring this movie up in class...A Midwinter's Tale is an extremely well-scripted, surprisingly warm and exceedingly clever look at actors and acting from someone who's been there, done that and knows what he is talking about."
"A comic valentine to diehard thespian dedication."
"[A] bustling, affectionately knowing film."
"A compulsion that many actors share is the need to say a great many unnecessary words about productions that speak for themselves. Branagh's screenplay has fun sending up this tendency."
